Another young man has been stabbed to death in Walthamstow.

A beautiful listed building has been damaged and is being left to decay, putting the safety of its users at risk. Don’t worry, you may say, the council can order the owners to maintain it. Tough luck, it’s Waltham Forest Council’s own flagship library in Walthamstow town square.

A fire, an assault, the closure of the Stow and an inquest - it's been a busy couple of days in Waltham Forest.

I've several times, by members of the public, councillors and council officers been told that the people fighting to save the EMD/Granada, the Stow, the market, the William Morris Gallery and Vestry House Museum and against a massive Primark on the Arcade site are middle class (and therefore somehow ignorable).

It feels like I’m always up at Whipps Cross these days, visiting the hospital.

Walthamstow dog track looked like a symbol of the whole town, the day it closed.

This job just keeps getting more and more glamorous.

I'm sure the credit crunch is bringing misery to millions. And I feel really sorry for neighbours currently buying or selling their properties.

Well, here's a turn up for the books.

Mayor Johnson once advocated hardline "Sharia law" for cycle thieves. Now it seems as if Waltham Forest Guardian readers want the same for pavement cyclists.

It seems the saga of credit card fraud in Chingford is going to be a long one.

This time last year, my mum came to stay. Normally she would want to save up in order to dine at the Ivy and shop in Covent Garden, but this time I persuaded her to let me entertain her locally.

Is there anything this council won’t do to avoid consulting the public?

Oh yes, I can make puns on my surname too.

It's that time of the week again. It's Wednesday afternoon. The paper is ready to go out on Thursday morning, everything's been topped and tailed and stories for next week haven't quite started to come together yet. It's a strange twilight time when the office goes quiet and people start drifting off towards home. There's a lull in the usual banter and those of us left resort to talking about supermarkets. It's blogging time.

St James Street open-air library could be the most popular spot in Walthamstow for readers this Saturday. The nearest official library, at Walthamstow Central, has been closed since a fire last week. And if you’re going to say that saves the council taking books to the incinerator again -- don’t be so cynical!

What do you think of the local council? And what's the best way to get results out of the council for our communities? That's the question that's been bouncing round my head this week, since it all kicked off on the Walthamstow Yahoo Group.

I've only been back from holiday for three days and already my brain is on the point of disintegrating into a quivering pool of mush inside my skull. It might or might not have something to do with the fact that my week actually started on Tuesday after Monday's "welcome" day in Watford. I've been in a bit of a time warp since then, especially as I was so tired on Monday that I barely noticed what was going on.
