It's been a week of minor triumphs.

This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

This time last year, my mum came to stay. Normally she would want to save up in order to dine at the Ivy and shop in Covent Garden, but this time I persuaded her to let me entertain her locally.

Is there anything this council won’t do to avoid consulting the public?

Oh yes, I can make puns on my surname too.

It's that time of the week again. It's Wednesday afternoon. The paper is ready to go out on Thursday morning, everything's been topped and tailed and stories for next week haven't quite started to come together yet. It's a strange twilight time when the office goes quiet and people start drifting off towards home. There's a lull in the usual banter and those of us left resort to talking about supermarkets. It's blogging time.

What do you think of the local council? And what's the best way to get results out of the council for our communities? That's the question that's been bouncing round my head this week, since it all kicked off on the Walthamstow Yahoo Group.

St James Street open-air library could be the most popular spot in Walthamstow for readers this Saturday. The nearest official library, at Walthamstow Central, has been closed since a fire last week. And if you’re going to say that saves the council taking books to the incinerator again -- don’t be so cynical!

I've only been back from holiday for three days and already my brain is on the point of disintegrating into a quivering pool of mush inside my skull. It might or might not have something to do with the fact that my week actually started on Tuesday after Monday's "welcome" day in Watford. I've been in a bit of a time warp since then, especially as I was so tired on Monday that I barely noticed what was going on.

Staging open-air shows in England is, as some joker said about second marriages, a triumph of hope over experience.

Before becoming parents, my husband and I would chuckle at the way friends’ opinions of Walthamstow changed overnight the very moment they reproduced.

A few years ago, I was lucky to receive funding to set up my own business. I came to realise that the reason I got the support depended on where I lived – not just which area, but which side of the street!

Rejoice and be glad, for I am leaving the country!

The last couple of weeks have seen the Council programme for 2008/09 starting to come into effect and officers are working hard to put the finishing touches to reports that will form the basis of the work to be done. I have now been appointed to all of the committees that I particularly wanted to work on and the first of those meetings is due to be held on 24th June.

Would you believe a bunch of actors and music-lovers strolling down Hoe Street one day noticed a pub to let and said, “Hey, let’s do the show right here”? In the finest tradition of stage musicals, that’s pretty much what happened at the Rose & Crown.

This feels like when your favourite band, the one you´ve followed since the early days, suddenly is number one and everyone´s wearing their t-shirt. The one you bought last summer. So... Epping Forest...how´s that for a link? Look, we´ll get back to the whole pop band analogy shortly. But meanwhile bear with me for a while about the forest.

What have churches, pubs and cafes got in common with grass verges and the pavement outside closed public buildings? Answer: they’re just some of the spots Walthamstow’s resourceful musicians have found to play in, as venues are closed down or priced out of reach.

The weather may be up and down, but it looks like being a long hot summer for Waltham Forest council. Local people have already held two demonstrations against its anti-Walthamstow policies in the past two weeks. And there are likely to be more ahead.

So. Week three as a Real Reporter reaches a middle. It's Wednesday and I have spent the last three days chasing people desperately, hoping leaving countless voice mail messages will actually return something. Anything. Please!
